Philosophy, Vision & Mission

Our philosophy is that all students can learn and achieve academic success by recognizing their individual needs, skills, and talents. We believe that all interventions should be student-centered, based on best practices and respect cultural and religious diversity. Parents and caregivers are primary agents of learning and therefore, must be integral members of the educational and therapeutic team. All children learn best in their least restrictive environment with an individualized modified curriculum using multiple modalities, including technology. The goal is for all our students to become independent participants in their classrooms with their typically developing peers.

Our vision is to enable and empower preschool students with disabilities to achieve their greatest potential and to become independent and life-long learners.

Our mission is to provide the highest quality education and support for all preschool students with disabilities and their families. We offer a comprehensive program that provides the building blocks necessary to promote academic and social success in school and in life.

Meet the Director

Dr. Neil Maron Ph.D.
Executive Director of Starting Point Services for Children

Since its inception in 1995, Dr. Maron has been the guiding star for this not-for-profit agency from its start-up phase through the years of growth and expansion. Under his leadership, determination and commitment, we have made a difference in the lives of countless pre-school students with special needs.

Dr. Maron’s background as a life-long learner, with a doctorate in clinical psychology supplemented by a master’s degree in education and coursework in public administration fits in perfectly with his vision. He employs the most innovative and progressive intervention modalities to support our students.

Dr. Maron and his staff recognize that each child is unique. A variety of teaching techniques tailored to meet the individual needs of each child is incorporated into the program. His expertise in neurodevelopment and assessment ensures that Starting Point Services for Children supports all aspects of the thinking, communication, physical, social and emotional development of pre-school students with special needs. He is committed to working with families so that there is productive reinforcement at home of each child’s individualized education program.

Under Dr. Maron’s tireless energy and determined commitment to foster a nurturing environment for students, Starting Point Services for Children has been recognized and approved by the New York State Education Department.
