Special Education Itinerant Teacher

A Special Education Itinerant Teacher (SEIT) is responsible for providing special education services as mandated in each student’s Individualized Educational Program (IEP). Qualified Professionals maintain a New York State Certificate in Special Education – Teacher of Students with Disabilities (Birth to Grade 2). Interventions are designed to promote skill acquisition across the developmental domains of cognition, speech and language, socialization, self-help, fine and gross motor development. SEITs plan and implement effective and developmentally appropriate activities designed to promote achievement of each student’s goals and objectives.

Through the provision of specific strategies, activities, and consistent reports of progress, SEITs work with parents/caregivers, to strengthen their ability as the primary agent for the educational achievement of the student. SEITs work to create a warm and encouraging relationship in order to build a supportive home-school connection.
